MY STORY
& philosophy
Welcome to my world of art and creativity! I'm Cathy Milner, an artist living on a farm in the picturesque Cape Winelands, just outside Stellenbosch.
My journey with art began when I was a young girl, believing that my drawings would come alive at night while I slept. This magical belief fueled my passion, leading me to study art at UCT and eventually pursue a career in creating and teaching.
In 2004, after the birth of my first son, I opened "The Stables Art Studio", a tranquil space nestled in converted horse stables surrounded by poplar trees and nasturtiums. Here, I teach adults and teenagers how to develop their artistic instincts in a calm, structured, yet free way.
My areas of expertise include drawing in all mediums, oil and acrylic painting, mixed media, and printmaking. I firmly believe that everyone has the potential to create; all it takes is time, a willingness to learn, and the freedom to make mistakes.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is getting to know the people who join me in my classes, weekend art workshops, and art retreats. There's nothing quite like the joy of seeing someone's face light up when they've created something they once thought was impossible.

/ 2004
Established "The Stables Art Studio"
Founded and opened my own art studio, which has since grown to offer regular classes for adults and teenagers, serving as my primary teaching space.

First Stables Student Exhibition
I hosted the first annual Stables student exhibition which is an absolute highlight for me, my students and art buyers and supporters.
/ 2012
First International "Art Tourism" Trip
I guide a group of 10 women from Amsterdam to London, through Paris, stopping at the most prominent and adorned art museums in Europe.

First Local "Art Tourism" Trip
The first in Nieu Bethesda in the Eastern Cape and I have since hosted 30+ local art retreats all over the South Africa, Nieu Bethesda and Barrydale being firm favourites, but more destinations are being added.

St Petersburg Art Tour
The Hermitage, in particular, housed many of the paintings we had longed to see in our lifetimes, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

I was honored to be a finalist in the printmaking competition at Eclectica in Cape Town.
